Progress on Geo June

At the outset of Geo June, I was hopeful that we could be providing more regular updates on what's going on, but with so much happening I knew we weren't going to be able to keep up with blog posts! Here's a recap of what we've been up to so far this month: Read more »

Announcing Geo June!

Help move Drupal a crucial step closer to being a true Geospatial CMS!

We invite you to join us for Geo June, a month-long series of events and collaborative projects. We will be coding, documenting and demonstrating solutions for data collection and mapping. By the end of the month, we aim to provide a stable foundation for storing and using "real" geospatial data in Drupal. There is a lot to do, but we're closer to our goals than you might think. Development efforts toward modules affecting all aspects of the geospatial equation-- from geocoding to geospatial data storage to mapping-- have never enjoyed a higher level of momentum. Let's capitalize on this and bring it all home. Geo June endeavors to do just this, with a virtual sprint to maximize the contributions of everyone who participates.

Participate!

You can join in the fun by helping us work the issue queue for Geo and related modules, or by participating in other ways:  Read more »

We've Gone Beta! An In-Depth Look at the Drupal OpenLayers Module

We have just released the first beta of the Drupal OpenLayers module. It's been a pretty crazy adventure as to how we got here, and there are still high hopes for the future. This post is going to be a long one, and should give you the complete introduction to this new mapping module for Drupal, and will also build on and borrow from my previous post on building this moduleRead more »

Geo Blog

The Geo Blog demo is meant to exhibit the ability of Geocode to pull information from sources you're already using.  In this case, a photo blog site.  The blogger uploads a new photo from a device that's location aware (like an iPhone).  When the photo is added to the site, the Geocode module reaches in and grabs the photo's EXIF data.   It then pulls out the locative information and stores it in the Geo module.

Building a Module

An In-Depth Look at Developing the OpenLayers Drupal Module

I was asked to do a presentation on coding in Drupal for our local Drupal user group. "Coding" is a pretty general topic, and the audience at our user group is pretty varied. So, I was not sure what specifically I should present that would encompass "coding". Read more »
